Underlying Power One thousand and one nights, one thousand and one moral stories. The story of The Thousand and One Nights is a unique tale that teaches simple morals throughout the many stories within the main story. This tale is about a clever women that saves herself, as well as the women in her kingdom, from being put to death by the king. She does this by marring the king and telling him bedtime stories every night that lead into the next day. She would purposely not finish the story, to leave him interested in the ending which eventually saves her life, and the women in her kingdom, day after day. Not only does the main story have a lesson to be learned, but the mini-stories also have simple morals to be learned. The kings wifes actions was the cause of this vow that was made. The story of the demon and his wife also show the power of women. The power illustrated here is the power that she has over two kings. She knew that they would be afraid of the demon, and used their fear to her advantage. As said in the text: Then she lay on her back, raised her legs, and said, Make love to me and satisfy need, or else I shall wake the demon, and he will kill you. They replied, For Gods sake, mistress, dont do this to us, for at this moment we feel nothing but dismay and fear of this demon. Please, excuse us. She replied, You must, and insisted, swearing, By God who created the heavens, if you dont do it, I shall wake my husband the demon and ask him to kill you and throw you into the sea. As she persisted, they could no longer resist and they made love to her, first the older brother, then the younger. Each of those people has countless relationships, which extend further into an immense network of relations among thousands of individuals. These relations can be romantic, professional, unconditional, mutual, or the strongest of all, friendship. Friendship is a term used to denote co-operative and supportive behavior between two or more beings. In this sense, the term connotes a relationship which involves mutual knowledge, esteem, and affection and respect along with a degree of rendering service to friends in times of need or crisis. In the pilot episode of â€Å"Freaks and Geeks,† it is undeniable that the use of lighting, music and camera manipulation are utilized to create pathos between the characters and the audience. This use of music is highly effective in relaying the sense of finality to the viewers, the geeks are finally going to stand up to the bully. Furthermore, the use of different camera angles and distances plays a large part in creating sympathy or empathy between the viewer and character as seen when Sam struggles to ask his crush, Cindy out for the Homecoming Dance. The close-up on his face is used to allow viewers to clearly see the hesitancy in his gaze, the nervous way he bites his lip and the internal struggle to find courage and pursue his dream. Without being able to truly see his emotions, viewers would likely be less empathetic towards his cause and not root for him as strongly had the camera been so far as to not being able to see his face. Lastly, another important aspect of media elements that was used frequently throughout the episode is lighting. During the scene where Lindsay’s in Nick’s garage, the lights are dim and soft and the romantic, deep atmosphere is created. It was during this scene where Nick tells Lindsay about his dreams and his passion for drumming, the lighting creates a sense of endearment from the viewers because the lighting, plus the music, plus the camera shots all combine together to create this peaceful, cute moment that makes the viewers really want something romantic to happen. Therefore, lighting, music and camera manipulation are all used extensively throughout the episode to heighten emotion and create pathos between the characters and the viewers.
